Nadezda Tavodova Tezgor
Nadezda Tavodova Tezgor is a Slovak born American photojournalist, originally from former Czechoslovakia, based in New York City. Her work focuses on conflict, human-interest stories, medical & clinical photography, breaking news, editorial work, cooperation with NGOs and travel.
Graduated from the Conservatory School of Performing Arts, majoring in Photography, Ostrava, Czech Republic (2006), the Spanish American Institute, NYC (2016), and she is currently at the International Center of Photography in the Documentary Practice and Visual Journalism Program, NYC (2025-present).
Nadezda collaborated with multiple artists and as a lead photographer on the book Business Etiquette and Communication with L. Špaček, former advisor for President Václav Havel (Prague, Czech Republic, Europrint, 2013).
In the last decade, she has worked as a photographer with several NGOs and media outlets. She covered victims of domestic violence in Afghanistan (Women For Afghan Women, Kabul, 2018), heroin addicts in Afghanistan (Mother Trust, Kabul, 2018), Medical mission in Philippines (Affiance for Smiles, Manila, 2019), body cremation in India (Varanasi, 2019), His Holiness The 14th Dalai Lama’s teaching in India (Dharamshala, 2019), in Europe and US, Covid-19 (New York, 2020), Black Lives Matter human rights protests (New York, 2022), Russian-Ukrainian war (Alamy News, 2022), Israel at war (Alamy News, 2023), and socially unstable families in Nepal (Rokpa, Kathmandu, 2023). She documented Cuba, Turkey, Egypt, Japan, and other countries.
She had multiple exhibitions: Light of the Night, hand-coloured abstract photographs (2006), Coffee with Egon Body, last portraits of the philosopher, author, and legend of the Czech Underground scene (2007), and Life in the Ruins, a story about the socially unstable family living in the ruins of an abandoned house, Czech Republic (2010). She took part in a group exhibition in New York City (Grand Salon Show (2015) with a series of auto-portraits. Her work from covering the conflict in Ukraine Nadezda presented at the Consulate General of Slovakia in New York (2022).
As a freelance, she contributes to Harlem Community News (New York, 2015- present), Patch News (New York, 2019- present), and Alamy News Agency (US and internationally, 2021-present), covering the political and cultural events, protests, and conflicts.
